Isuzu has made waves in the automotive industry with the announcement of its battery-electric (BEV) version of the D-Max pickup, joining the ranks of its diesel variant. This move positions the Isuzu D-Max BEV as a formidable competitor against globally recognized trucks like the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger, which offer mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options.

Ian Able, Managing Director of Isuzu UK, expressed enthusiasm for the D-Max BEV, stating, “The Isuzu D-Max BEV represents a new era for pick-up trucks, combining the legendary toughness of the D-Max with electric technology.” This sentiment underscores Isuzu’s commitment to a carbon-neutral future and delivering environmentally friendly options without compromising performance or reliability.

Power and Payload

Equipped with a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery generating 130 kW of power, this electric pickup boasts all-wheel drive and a top speed of 81 mph. While its driving range is yet to be disclosed, it offers a practical payload capacity of 1 ton and a towing capacity of 3.5 tons, although slightly lower than its diesel counterpart.

D-Max BEV Launch

Isuzu plans to introduce this commercial pick-up in Europe next year, with potential expansions to the UK, Australia, and other markets based on demand and charging infrastructure. The D-Max BEV promises a smooth, vibration-free ride on various terrains, catering to both commercial and passenger needs.
