Honda Amaze
The Honda Amaze, a compact sedan that stands alongside the Honda City and Elevate, is a naturally aspirated vehicle known for its economical fuel consumption and competitive features. In a time when consumers are increasingly favoring SUVs over sedans and hatchbacks, the introduction of the Honda Amaze represents a strategic move by the Japanese automaker to diversify its range of cost-effective options.
The Honda Brio Amaze was first introduced in 2013 as a model that complements the Honda City and Elevate. This model was specifically designed for the Indian market, which imposes a lower excise duty on cars shorter than 4 meters. The second generation of the Amaze was launched in 2018 with significant updates and was refreshed in 2021, which is the current model available in the country. The next generation of the Honda Amaze, featuring major exterior and interior changes, is set to be unveiled later this year.
Previously, the Honda Amaze shared a similar platform with the Honda City and Elevate. However, the platform of the upcoming Amaze will be altered to make it shorter than 4 meters. For comparison, the current City has a wheelbase of 2,600mm, the Elevate has 2,650mm, and the Amaze has 2,470mm, which will be further reduced in the forthcoming Honda Amaze.
It is highly probable that Honda will retain the 1.2 Litre naturally aspirated engine of the Honda Amaze for the next generation. The existing model is equipped with a 5-speed manual or 7-speed CVT transmission and delivers 89bhp and 110Nm of torque.
While Honda has not disclosed much information about the interior modifications, it is expected to introduce updated LED headlamps, an infotainment system, high-quality upholstery, and enhanced ADAS features. The Honda Amaze is anticipated to be launched in mid- or late 2024, coinciding with the Diwali festive season in India.
