Petrol prices in Pakistan are expected to see a notable decrease in the upcoming fortnightly review on August 15, 2024. The federal government will announce the revised petroleum prices on Thursday, with the new rates taking effect from August 16.
Reports suggest that petrol prices may be reduced by up to Rs9 per litre, while diesel prices could drop by Rs8 per litre, offering some relief to the public. Additionally, the price of kerosene oil is likely to decrease by Rs12 per litre.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is currently working on recommendations that will be presented to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for approval.
As of July 31, the government had reduced petrol prices for the first fortnight of August 2024. Currently, petrol is priced at Rs269.43 per litre, and high-speed diesel is being sold for Rs272.77 per litre after a reduction of Rs6.17 per litre.
From August 16, petrol prices are expected to decrease by Rs9 per litre, bringing the new price to Rs260.43 per litre. Diesel prices may drop by Rs8, reducing the price to Rs264.77 per litre.
The final decision will be made by the government based on OGRA’s recommendations.
