Pakistan Railways Penalizes 97 Officials for Corruption
Pakistan Railways has penalized over 97 officials on corruption charges over the past five years as part of a broader initiative to curb malpractice within the department. “Several steps are being taken to control corruption in Pakistan Railways, which include introducing ticket vending machines and online reservation of tickets to avoid black marketing,” an official from the Ministry said.
The Ministry official explained that Pakistan Railways has set up a task team to monitor irregularities and ensure staff attendance. He noted, “Ticketless campaigns through Special Ticket Examiners (STEs) groups and officers are being carried out on a daily basis in the divisions to check and charge such passengers with a penalty.”
In addition, the department has transitioned pension payments to an online banking system, aimed at both facilitating pensioners and eliminating ghost pensioners. “The payment of pension is being carried out through the online banking system to facilitate the pensioners as well as to eliminate the ghost pensioners from the department,” the official added.
He also added, “All the auctions are transparently held through the designated committee and the deposited amount is being received through CDR duly verified by the concerned Divisional Accounts Officers (DAO).”
