Female teachers in Sialkot will soon receive electric bikes to make their daily travel easier, with support from the local business community.
Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali said this program is part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision to give women teachers safer and more convenient transportation.
Applications for the scheme opened earlier this month, and over 650 teachers have already applied before the August 10 deadline.
The age limit for applicants was set at 35 years, and both permanent and contract teachers could apply. Priority was given to widows, divorced women, and those who are the only earners in their families.
The electric bikes will be distributed through a computerized draw to keep the process fair and transparent.
Earlier, during Independence Day celebrations, 14 female teachers in the district had already received e-bikes with the help of donors. Officials say this project will help women overcome travel problems and also cut down on pollution by promoting clean energy vehicles.
