Leading figures of the Bollywood film industry reacted to the post-Taliban situation in Afghanistan.

British-Indian filmmaker and actress Soni Razdan alias Soni Butt has expressed her views on the current situation in Afghanistan on the micro-blogging website Twitter.

“While one country celebrates their Independence another loses theirs … what a world this is,” she wrote in a tweet.

“History teaches us that fanatics first attack culture under the guise of religion” Indian actress Shabana Azmi said in response to the situation in Afghanistan on the micro-blogging site Twitter.

“Remember that #Taliban destroyed the 6th century Bamiyan statues. It was a sign that human cruelty would follow”, she added.

Well-known Indian writer and poet Javed Akhtar also reacted to the current situation in Afghanistan on his Twitter account, saying, “What kind of super power US is that it couldn’t eradicate these barbarians called Talibans.”

“What kind of world this world is that has left Afghan women to the lack of mercy of these fanatics. Shame on all those western countries who claim to be the saviours of human rights,” he added.

Javed Akhtar said that all Western countries which claim to be defenders of human rights should be ashamed for not preventing or taking action against the current situation in Kabul.

On the other hand, Farhan Akhtar, the son of Javed Akhtar and a well-known Bollywood director, said in response to the situation in Afghanistan, “The only thing the powers of the world need to talking about right now is how to help innocent Afghans. Not in days and time to come. NOW.
