Old friends Steve Martin and Martin Short have reunited once more, this time with Selena Gomez, who adds a youthful vibe to their new mystery-comedy “Only Murders in the Building.”
The series, which premiered on Hulu on Tuesday, follows three neighbors as they try to solve a murder in their Manhattan apartment building while also recording a podcast. Martin co-created the show, which he said was inspired by his interest in true-crime stories.
Gomez, a 29-year-old actress and pop singer, said she was honoured to work with the comedy veterans.
“To be honest, it’s quite unique and exactly what you’d expect. You’re on set, and you have a break, and you’re talking about the news, or music, or relationships, or whatever, and they’re just going back and forth. It’s simply the best,” she exclaimed.
Short and Martin have been together for over 35 years. They first collaborated on the film “Three Amigos!” and later on the comedy “Father of the Bride.”
“I find him amusing. For me, that’s the main draw, and it’s the reason you end up being friends with someone. But the second part is his incredible kindness and decency as a man,” Short explained.
“Marty is the ideal individual. So, if you’re throwing a dinner party and Marty says he won’t be able to attend, call it off. It’ll just be less enjoyable,” Martin explained.
