Czech model goes free after being acquitted of drug trafficking charges

Tereza Hluskova, a Czech model who was condemned to more than eight years in prison for importing heroin, was released on Saturday following her acquittal earlier this month.

Customs agents nabbed the model in January 2018 after discovering 9kgs of heroin hidden in her luggage.

She was sentenced to eight years in prison by a sessions court later that year, and she appealed her conviction in April of that year. Hluskova stated that the narcotics were placed in her suitcase by someone else.

According to the appeal, the court convicted the appellant without considering the merits of the case or having any actual evidence against him.

The plaintiff claimed that the session’s court mostly relied on the prosecution’s manufactured storey without evaluating the “actual facts.” The appellant then requested that the conviction be overturned and that she be acquitted of the charges.

During the hearing, the Czech model’s lawyer stated that it could not be shown that the alleged narcotics were delivered securely to the laboratory for testing.

Her lawyer claimed that because the investigation did not reveal who took the samples to the lab, they were most likely exchanged.

After hearing all sides’ arguments, the court found the international model not guilty. A co-suspect had already been released by the sessions court due to a lack of evidence.

The Czech foreign ministry also shared a tweet in light of recent development. “The Czech citizen was released from prison in Pakistan today and our embassy will now help her arrange a trip back to the Czech Republic”, it cited.
