Organisers of Britain’s pop music awards, the BRITs, are scrapping its female and male categories from next year as they plan to introduce gender-neutral awards for local and international artists.

To enhance the importance of the music industry, the BRIT organisers have said that four new categories will also be introduced, including alternative/rock act, hip-hop/grime/rap act, dance act and pop/R’n’B act.
Britain’s well-known BRIT Awards will next take place on February 8 next year. It will be the 42nd edition of the award show.

Earlier in September this year, San Sebastian Film Festival had introduced a gender-neutral acting award for best leading performance for the first time.
