Will Smith may have publicly apologised for his behaviour at the 2022 Academy Awards, but Chris Rock has yet to receive a private message from him.

Following the Sunday, March 27, awards event, Us Weekly has heard exclusively from numerous sources that Smith, 53, has not personally sought out to the Grown Ups actor, 57. According to insiders, Smith’s only communication about the incident was one he posted on social media. (When we sought out for comment, reps did not answer.)

“Chris is focusing on his tour,” a source says of the comedian, who landed in Boston for a stand-up show on Wednesday, March 30. “He’s moving on and is looking forward to his upcoming gigs.”

During the 94th Academy Awards, the I Am Legend star reacted angrily to a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head made by Chris Rock. The 50-year-old Gotham actress rolled her eyes at the suggestion that she would appear in a G.I. Jane sequel, prompting her husband to take matters into his own hands.

“Keep my wife’s name out of your f****** mouth,” Smith shouted as he returned to his seat after approaching Rock and slapping him across the face.

Some onlookers wondered if the scene was staged, but Smith later went to the stage to claim the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his work in King Richard. “Love will make you do crazy things,” the Philadelphia native stated, comparing himself to Richard Williams, whom he played in the biography.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum turned to Instagram one day after the wedding to address the incident. On Monday, March 28, Smith wrote, “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive.” “My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable.”

The Gemini Man star said he “reacted emotionally” to the insult directed at the Red Table Talk host, who suffers from alopecia. He then went on to express his regret to the Saturday Night Live alum.

“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be,” Smith continued. “There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness. I would also like to apologize to The Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world.”

Rock has yet to comment on the matter, but Us already verified that he did not submit a case with the LAPD. Meanwhile, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences declared on Monday that it would take action in the wake of the scandal.

“The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night’s show,” read an official statement, per Variety. “We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law.”
