Jamaicans are furious by Meghan Markle’s treatment
During Kate Middleton and Prince William’s royal visit of the Caribbean, a royal expert expressed her opinion on the protest in Jamaica.
Just before the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Jamaica, a protest against Britain’s connections to the Caribbean island was held.
A royal expert commented on the demonstrations, claiming that “Jamaicans are upset about the treatment of Meghan Markle.”
Journalist Nadine Batchelor Hunt wrote on Twitter: “I don’t think Brits realise how angry Jamaicans are over the treatment of Meghan by the Royal Family & the British public. And the Royal Family should be worried, the decolonisation movement has picked up steam in recent years: Barbados just abolished the Queen as head of state.”
The Duchess of Sussex accused the Royal Family of racism in a surprise interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, claiming that one unknown member of the Firm raised “concerns about how dark his [Archie’s] complexion would be when he was born.”
The journey to the Caribbean by William and Kate is being viewed as a charm offensive to deter other countries from following Barbados’ lead and deposing the Queen as Head of State.
Jamaica, a Commonwealth realm where the Queen still reigns supreme, is embroiled in a heated discussion about whether or not to cut links with the British Crown 60 years after gaining independence.
Kate Middleton and Prince William, who was apparently assigned a secondary task for the visit, are, on the other hand, winning hearts with their people-friendly gestures and trying their best to reflect the Royal Family’s positive image.
