On Monday, Kate and Prince William walked together to Westminster Abbey. As they greeted some of the lawmakers, dignitaries, and international leaders in attendance, the Duke and Duchess appeared solemn in their positions.

The Commonwealth Day service is held at Westminster Abbey every year to commemorate the 54-strong membership of independent nations working together to achieve economic, environmental, social, and democratic goals.

The Commonwealth, a union nourished as its Head by the Queen during her record-breaking reign, has a population of 2.4 billion people.

This year’s service will be especially meaningful since it will reflect not only on the Commonwealth’s 2022 theme, “Delivering a Common Future,” but also on the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
