In 2016, the Duke of Sussex slammed the media for their coverage of his then-girlfriend Meghan, claiming she had been “subjected to a wave of abuse and harassment.”
The Duke was said to be ‘freaking out’ over Meghan leaving him.
According to reports, Harry instructed his team to issue a statement attacking the media in response to worries Meghan will leave him.
Harry’s communications secretary, Jason Knauf, issued a statement condemning “the racial overtones of comment pieces” as well as “the plain misogyny and bigotry of social media trolls and web article comments.”
The Duke made the comment while apparently “freaking out” about Meghan’s decision to abandon him.
His staff is alleged to have been compelled to undertake a full-fledged defense of Meghan, which a spokesman for the couple denies.
A source told The Times: “It did feel like that if the palace was not able to stand up and support his girlfriend, against some of that disgusting coverage… then who in their right mind would ever consider entering into a relationship [with him] in the future?
“He was very exercised about some of that coverage.
“He definitely felt that if nothing was done to support her, then she would be, ‘I’m not sure this is what I signed up for’.”
Another source told the newspaper: “He was freaking out, saying, ‘she’s going to dump me.”
