Tom Cruise is seen flying high in the latest trailer for Paramount Pictures’ upcoming Top Gun: Maverick flick.
Admiral Kazansky (Val Kilmer) recruits Cruise’s Pete “Maverick” Mitchell to teach the Navy’s next generation of top ace’s in the trailer.
Not only will he be teaching this new bunch of hotshots, but the teaser also shows them prepping for a combat mission that no one has ever seen before, including Maverick.
The teaser is full of nostalgia, even appearing to incorporate a sequence from the original film where Maverick races a plane down the runway on his motorcycle.
Along with the memories, it also has some personal turmoil, thanks to Miles Teller’s portrayal of Nick “Goose” Bradshaw’s son, Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw.
Penny Benjamin, played by Jennifer Connelley, appears to be Maverick’s new love interest, as well as a source of moral courage and strength as he struggles with this new generation of pilots and the perilous mission they are about to undertake.
Paramount also published a new poster for the picture to go along with the new teaser. Take a peek around.
The official description for the film reads, “After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.”
It continues, “When he finds himself training a detachment of TOPGUN graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: ‘Rooster,’ the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka ‘Goose.’”
“Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it,” the description concludes.
Joseph Kosinski directs the picture, which was based on a script by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie. Peter Craig and Justin Marks wrote the plot, which is based on Jim Crash and Jack Epps, Jr.’s characters.
Cruise, Jerry Bruckheimer, and David Ellison co-produced the film with McQuarrie. Executive producers include Tommy Harper, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Chad Oman, and Mike Stenson.
Cruise, Teller, Connelly, Hamm, Powell, Pullman, Charles Parnell, Bashir Salahuddin, Monica Barbaro, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, Greg Tarzan Davis, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer are among the cast members.
On May 27, 2022, Top Gun: Maverick will be released in theatres.
