Ali Hassan Ali, a former MET police officer, said that Will Smith’s violent outburst at the Oscars was a ‘plain and simple assault’.

Gemini actor slapped comedian Chris Rock for joking about Will’s wife Jada Pinkett’s hair.

Smith won the Best Actor for his performance in King Richard. However, Ali said that he should give back his award.

During a morning show, Ali said that Smith was out of control and was simply trying to prove that he is a man by slapping the comedian.

‘What I watched on TV was plain and simple, assault,’ he said. ‘For me what I saw on TV was violence, it was a man out of control.

‘This man has assaulted another man, where are the police? I’m looking at it from a law enforcement stance where I was surprised police did not intervene.’

When he was asked if Smith still is a role model, Ali admitted that it was not an easy answer.

However, he added that he set a bad example for his fans after his indecent act.

‘You’ve done it in front of millions of people, he’s done it in the public eye, on one of the biggest stages in the world’, he said.

‘There are little kids who look up to will Smith as a role model and may look at that and say “Do I now go and slap another kid in school”‘

He added: ‘It comes down to Will Smith wanting to show his masculinity, to show another man  he’s strong man, he’s been in the public eye his whole life he’s heard worse.’

Will slapped Rock after he joked about his wife for her bald head, while the officer believes that it was a terrible joke.

‘It was a distasteful joke’, he said. ‘I think this could have been dissolved with two men having a conversation.

‘I would reconsider seeing Will Smith movies because you’re condoning violence, he needs to face the consequences, we live in a land of law. He needs to be reprimanded and apologize and be remorseful.

When asked whether Smith should give back his Oscar, he said: ‘If I was in his position, I would give it back…for me, it’s overshadowed nobody is talking about the movie.’
