Who’s the reason behind Adria Arjona casting in “Morbius”?
You can trace a clear line from Wesley Snipes' Blade in 1998...
Streaming is where long-forgotten, unknown, underappreciated, and occasionally horrible horror films go to discover a whole new audience, with many of them getting an unexpected second chance. We can now add 2005’s The Skeleton Key to the list after it became one of the Top 10 titles in the United Kingdom.
According to FlixPatrol, the surprisingly ordinary supernatural chiller is the sixth most popular title in the United Kingdom, and its success on the worldwide rankings has earned it a spot on Netflix’s global most-watched list. The Skeleton Key wasn’t exactly a smash hit at the time, grossing $95 million on a $43 budget, but it wasn’t a disaster either.
Kate Hudson stars as a New Orleans nurse who quits her profession to care for an elderly couple, notably John Hurt’s spouse, who is in ill condition. She proceeds to find a lot of odd objects and unusual goings-on while snooping around their creaky estate, eventually realising that the property has a deep, dark, and deadly secret.
The Skeleton Key received mixed reviews from critics despite being a pretty basic haunted house narrative enhanced by some good for the time mid-2000s visual effects and a passionate performance from Hudson. By the third act, the film has devolved into a jumbled mess, with any feeling of true suspense or dread being tossed aside in favour of jump scares, broad strokes fright, and CGI extravagance.
The Skeleton Key was virtually certain to get a second wind on Netflix because it was a fairly splashy horror with a known celebrity in the lead, and that’s precisely what occurred.
