Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are set to square off again in a $50 million film
The venomous separation of celebrities Johnny Depp and Golden Heard proceeds with...
Amber Laura Heard is an American actress in movies and TV shows. In 2006, Heard had her first starring role in the movie All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. She had a lot of small roles before that. She was first known for her roles in the movies Never Back Down and Pineapple Express.
After the defamation case, the star told fans she hoped she and Johnny could “move on.” This week, the two will meet in a US court.
Heard, 35, said Johnny was suing her for a Washington Post op-ed she wrote in 2018 about domestic violence and violence she had been through.
She said, “I never named him, I wrote about the price women pay for speaking against men in power.”
For $50 million dollars, Depp sued. Heard then sued for double that amount of money, so they both ended up being sued.
The two will fight each other in a Virginia courthouse, where state defamation laws are more lenient than in other places around the country.
They say a 2018 article called “I spoke out against sexual violence and faced our culture’s wrath” isn’t true. Depp’s lawyers say the article is false. She was physically and sexually abused by her husband, Hollywood actor John Heard, while they were married. She said the accusations have made it hard for her to find work.
Heard’s lawyers are expected to say that because of a law in Virginia called a “anti-Slapp provision,” she should not have to pay the libel suit (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation).
The provision is meant to protect people from nuisance lawsuits when they talk about things that are important to the public.
Heard’s lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, says the article is very important because it talks about domestic violence.
