Clea Shearer star of ‘The Home Edit,’ diagnosed with breast cancer
Clea Shearer, half of the Get Organized with The Home Edit duo, has revealed she has breast cancer.
Shearer commented on the news in an Instagram post on Thursday, in which she posted a photograph of herself wearing a robe from the Vanderbilt Breast Center in Nashville. “I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She wrote, “It’s a difficult thing to say, but it’s easier than keeping it to myself.”
Shearer also said that she will have a double mastectomy later this week.
“I found a lump myself the last week of February,” Shearer detailed of learning the news. Despite trying to make an appointment with her OB for “several months” and telling them she discovered a lump, Shearer said “they couldn’t accommodate me.” She continued, “I had to request a mammogram from my general doctor, which led to an ultrasound, and then an emergency triple biopsy.”
Clea Shearer, one half of the Get Organized With The Home Edit pair, recently announced that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Shearer revealed that she was diagnosed with “two aggressive and fast-moving tumors, each measuring one centimeter in diameter — but I found it early.” I would be in a very different scenario right now if I hadn’t taken this on myself.”
Despite the fact that announcing her illness publicly is a “personal choice,” Shearer believes that doing so makes the disease “feel purposeful.” She went on to advise others to “regularly self-examine, always self-advocate, and prioritize your health over your hectic schedules.”
“It’s also important to note that I was under 40 when these tumors formed, and have no history of breast cancer in my family. Even if cancer feels improbable, it’s still very possible,” she added
Shearer accepts the fact that it wasn’t always this easy for her as it may seem now. Initially it felt like the end of the world for her but later her “why me?” turned into “honestly, why NOT me?!”
She also added “I have all the support, resources, and a platform to help other people through this. So if anyone has to have breast cancer, I’ll gladly let it be me. Thank you for being on this journey. I love our community, and you mean more to me than you’ll ever know. xo, Clea.”
The news of Shearer’s illness comes as the second season of Netflix’s Get Organized With The Home Edit premieres. In February, Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine bought Shearer and Joanna Teplin’s firm.
