Mark Wahlberg Discusses Hoping For A “New Chapter” In His Hollywood Career
Can this be a new start for Mark Wahlberg?
Mark Wahlberg, who has previously appeared in comedies such as The Other Guys and the Ted flicks. We’ve also seen the well-known fitness enthusiast in action movies like Mile 22 and Uncharted. While we know the actor can pack a punch and make us laugh, with films like Joe Bell and Father Stu, the time has come for him to take his career to new heights. Mark Wahlberg is opening up about his hopes for a “new chapter” in his Hollywood career, following his recent exploration of new genres.
Inspirational films based on actual stories can be a wonderful way to honour the life of someone who made a significant influence in the lives of others around them. The Ted actor wants to be a part of that service and appears to want to do more in the future. Mark Wahlberg expressed his desire to do more “meaningful” films after Father Stu in an interview with Deadline, and he encouraged other stars to do the same.
For years, the erstwhile “Marky Mark” rapper has been tearing up the box office with blockbusters. Mark Wahlberg’s best roles are hero roles in Deepwater Horizon and Lone Survivor, in which he sacrificed his life for the greater good. In films like I Heart Huckabees, The Departed, and Boogie Nights, Wahlberg has shown his more critically lauded side. Every one of these performances demonstrates that he has the versatility and determination to play anything he wants… yet it appears that he’s moved on from Father Stu.
It’s worth noting that Mark Wahlberg has previously dabbled in the inspirational biopic genre. He was able to take hits in the film Invincible, which is based on the actual tale of bartender Vince Papale, who gets the chance to play for the Philadelphia Eagles. Wahlberg recently acted as a bereaved father speaking out against bullying after his son committed suicide as a result of being misunderstood in the true-life movie Joe Bell. Father Stu, a heartwarming true story of a former boxer who survives a motorcycle accident and wants to use his second shot in life to become a priest, is currently playing in theatres.
Father Stu is a far cry from the Hollywood blockbusters that we’re used to seeing Mark Wahlberg in. While this film is about finding religion after all hope seems to have been gone, the cast believes it stands out from other faith-based films. Father Stu, according to the Transformers star, is a film for everyone that is “wildly entertaining” but also has some edge because it is still an R-rated film. Instead of “preaching to the choir,” as he claims, this film may change the faith-based genre as we know it.
While I hope the actor continues on this path, I’m hoping Mark Wahlberg’s next inspirational roles don’t have him sipping olive oil.
