Over the course of his career, Paul Bettany has portrayed a number of noteworthy characters, one most Marvel fans are familiar with is Vision, the android who was created to serve as a replacement body for Ultron but instead became a voice of reason and calm among the Avengers.
Of course, that didn’t work out for him; he was killed off in Avengers: Infinity War before being revived on WandaVision. But he wasn’t truly brought back; Vision was a projection of his partner Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen), whose reality-altering abilities had gotten out of hand.
But then Vision was resurrected in the form of White Vision, a replica generated without the Mind Stone’s impact.
Bettany joked, “Absolutely not! Not for any kind of money at all. I can’t even think of a figure,”
“No, the honest answer to that is — well maybe it’s not the honest answer, but it’s the answer I’m going to give you and you’ll just have to cope with it, at the end of WandaVision, you see Vision fly off and that’s a loose end. And Kevin Feige is a man who doesn’t really allow loose ends. So I assume at some point I will be putting on my tights and cloak for another outing, but I don’t know when that might be.”
That’s fine! And can I just add that I think it’s fantastic that Bettany just tells interviewers that they’ll have to deal with whatever evasive response he gives them? He’s a tough cookie. When ABC News approached him about Vision earlier last month, he likewise gave them the slip, “I can neither confirm nor deny said rumors about me being in Doctor Strange,”
“I’ve gotta keep the kids in school – I can’t give secrets away!”
In other Marvel news, late last week saw the start of filming for the Hawkeye spinoff show Echo. Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) was a villain in Hawkeye who broke away from the criminal Tracksuit Mafia and her mentor, the Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio). Echo is a deaf superhero who also has a prosthetic leg in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s a master at imitating her opponents’ moves and fighting abilities. People are thrilled for this spinoff since Cox did a fantastic job portraying Hawkeye in Hawkeye.
According to Digital Spy, the star posted a photo of flowers and a note on her Instagram Stories to commemorate the show’s first day of filming.
Echo will mark a number of firsts for Marvel, including the first time a Deaf or Native American character would star in a Marvel show or film. We don’t have a release date yet, but the show is expected to premiere in 2023.
