Casting announcement indicated story details for “The Nun 2”

The horror film The Nun 2 has been officially greenlit, and pre-production is finally moving forward, according to one of the many stories that came from CinemaCon last week. Following The Nun’s massive box office success in 2018, a sequel script was being written as early as 2019. The nunnery’s fires, on the other hand, have only recently been ignited.

The original film was set in 1952, and there has been some discussion as to whether the sequel would continue directly from there or toy with time in some way. According to ScreenRant, the response appears to have come in the shape of a casting call.

According to the casting call’s premise, the film will be set in 1956 France (a departure from the original film’s Romanian setting) and will follow Taissa Farmiga’s Sister Irene as she is forced to confront Valak (Bonnie Aarons) once more after a priest is murdered, resulting in an evil spreading. While the first film looked to wrap things up well between Irene and Valak, it appears that the sequel will find a way to work around this.

Another aspect of The Nun 2 that needs to be addressed is how it functions as a Conjuring prequel, given Irene isn’t seen or discussed in the following films. James Wan, the successful Conjuring franchise’s director, may need to collaborate with writer Akela Cooper on how the connection between The Nun and The Conjuring works.

While The Nun was a box office success, film was not favourably received by reviewers. The inclusion of Malignant writer Akela Cooper in the sequel gives reason to hope for a better outcome. Hopefully, it will focus more on the parts that worked, such as the gothic vibe.
