Doctor Strange 2: Elizabeth Olsen enjoyed playing ‘confident’ version of Wanda Maximoff

In the Multiverse of Madness, Elizabeth Olsen addresses Wanda’s newfound faith in Doctor Strange.

Since her introduction in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, Olsen’s Wanda has been an important part of the MCU.

After starring in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, Wanda got her own Disney+ show, the critically acclaimed WandaVision, last year.

After the death of her companion, Vision (Paul Bettany), Olsen’s character in WandaVision is forced to confront and heal her grief.

Wanda’s narrative is continued in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with the character contending with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Wong (Benedict Wong) over her wish to reconnect with her two children.

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Olsen describes Wanda’s newfound confidence and power.

After portraying Wanda as someone who is continually striving in previous films, Olsen says it was nice to play her as someone who now “knows exactly what she wants.”

“It was very enjoyable for me because all these years I’ve been playing a character who is struggling; now, for the first time, she has clarity, she knows precisely what she wants, and she doesn’t want to apologize for it,” Elizabeth told.

“That has a womanliness to it, I believe: a power in feeling absolutely entitled.”

Meanwhile, it’s uncertain what the future holds for Olsen’s Wanda, although the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness open the possibility of her reappearance.

Wanda has matured into one of the most fascinating and complicated characters in the MCU.

She undergoes a dramatic transformation over the course of numerous films, while not being a significant focus of prior Avengers flicks.
