Rebekah Vardy was seen crying as she exited the courtroom following a heated exchange with Coleen Rooney’s lawyer during their libel trial.

Rooney’s lawyer, David Sherborne, had been questioning Vardy about one of Rooney’s fake Instagram posts as part of her Wagatha Christie sting.

Sherborne erroneously stated that Vardy had “gone to Mexico to look at gender selection,” to which she responded, “It wasn’t me, it was Mrs Rooney.”

“Is that your best point?” asked the lawyer.

Hugh Tomlinson QC, Vardy’s lawyer, then stood up and said, “Mr Sherborne keeps making remarks, and if the witness is in the box for a long time, it can be unpleasant.”

After being questioned by Rooney’s lawyer, Vardy sobbed his way out of court.

“It is unnecessary,” said Mrs Justice Steyn, who is hearing the case.

She added that the court “did not have time” for the remarks, and cross-examination resumed for a few seconds before asking Vardy if she needed a break. Vardy nodded and took a handful of tissues before exiting the courtroom for a few moments.

Vardy is suing Rooney for libel after claiming in 2019 that she leaked private information to the press.
