With only one day to go, the UK’s entry has an 11 percent chance of winning, placing them second behind Ukraine, who is now the bookmakers’ favorite with a 58 percent winning chance as of this morning, May 13.
However, EurovisionWorld.com, which displays statistics from bookies across the UK, has classified this year’s entrants from most popular to least popular based on bets placed. The grand final will be held tomorrow, Saturday, May 14, with Sam Ryder announced as the 22nd performer in line out of 25 countries.
Fans who have seen the widely shared footage of the performance online have been blown away by his vocals and the guitar solo he does when Space Man approaches a rip-roaring crescendo. The 32-year-old TikTok sensation will represent the UK on Saturday with his uplifting pop song.
It comes after Albania, Latvia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, and Austria were eliminated from the competition in Turin, Italy, during the semi-finals, which lasted all week. Space Man imagines what it would be like to launch into space as an astronaut and what the world would look like.
The song starts off, “If I was an astronaut, I‘d be floating in mid-air/And a broken heart would just belong, to someone else down there.”
His song reflects positivity, artist continues to exude through his upbeat look on life. The line “Gravity keeps pulling me down” and “Been down some black holes” taps into the more negative things in life causing sadness.
The Essex singer rose to prominence after posting music to the social media app TikTok during the coronavirus lockdown in 2020. During a period when the globe was in darkness, Ryder found light and began producing pop song covers.
Sia, Alicia Keys, and Justin Bieber were among the artists Ryder covered. Keys, a well-known American singer, even remarked on Ryder’s cover of her classic If I Ain’t Got You, putting the British singer in the spotlight.
