In ‘Jurassic Park,’ Sam Neill and Laura Dern discuss their 19-year age difference: ‘Felt entirely fitting.’
In the 1993 film Jurassic Park, Sam Neill and Laura Dern discussed their 19-year age difference as Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler.
The Marriage Story actor told The Sunday Times that playing Neill’s love interest in the science fiction film seemed “absolutely fitting” at the moment.
“I am 20 years older than Laura!” said the Peaky Blinders star to the publication. “Which, at the time, was an entirely appropriate age gap for a starring man and woman!”
“It never occurred to me until I opened a magazine and there was an item headlined ‘Old Geezers and Gals,'” he said. Actors such as Harrison Ford and Sean Connery have worked with considerably younger actors. And there I was, at the top of the list. ‘Come on,’ I said. That can’t be right.'”
“Well, it felt very proper to fall in love with Sam Neill,” Dern explained. “And it wasn’t until we returned at a period of cultural consciousness of patriarchy that I realised, ‘Wow! We’re not the same age?'”
After 30 years, the two will reprise their roles in Jurassic World Dominion, which will be released in June 2022.
