‘Demimonde’ is on the verge of being cancelled, thanks to Warner Bros

J.J. Abrams is a busy man, as we’ve already stated. Between producing the upcoming Star Trek and Mission: Impossible films and whatever he’s working on for Warner Bros., the guy has a lot of projects on which he’ll be an executive producer. He’s now adding a Speed Racer adaptation to his hectic agenda, lest you think he’d ease down.
According to Variety, Abrams will serve as EP on a new live-action adaptation of the 1960s anime, which is based on Tatsuo Yoshida’s manga Mach GoGoGo.
This will be the series’ second live-action adaptation, following the critically acclaimed 2008 film directed by Matrix founders Lana and Lilly Wachowski and starring Emile Hirsch and John Goodman. If you remember the movie, you scream its praises as much as you can; if you, like me, haven’t watched it, here’s a list of reasons why it’s fantastic.
Ron Fitzgerald and Hiram Martinez will serve as writers, EPs, and co-showrunners for this remake, which will air on Apple. Fitzgerald’s credits include the Snowpiercer series and FX’s Snowfall, as well as past work on Westworld and Friday Night Lights. Martinez’s credits include the Snowpiercer series and FX’s Snowfall.
According to Variety, this Speed Racer revival has been in the works for some years and has already received a full series order. The issue now is whether adding Abrams as EP would help the programme forward in production or lead it to linger even longer in development hell.
