Jennifer Lopez describes ‘terrifying’ panic attack brought on by tiredness
Jennifer Lopez described a scary panic episode she suffered in her late twenties as a result of tiredness, which taught her the value of a good night’s sleep.
In her newsletter On The JLo, the Marry Me star described her panic attack in which her body ‘totally immobilised.’
“There was a moment in my life when I used to sleep three to five hours a night,” wrote the actor-singer. “I’d be on set all day, in the studio all night, and on weekends, doing junkets and making videos.” I was in my late twenties and felt I was unbeatable.”
“I was sitting in a trailer,” she said, “and all the labour and stress it brought with it, along with not enough sleep to heal psychologically, caught up with me.”
“I went from feeling fully normal to thinking about what I needed to accomplish that day, and all of a sudden I felt as if I couldn’t move,” she explained, adding that she was “completely frozen” and had no idea what was going on.
“I couldn’t see well, and then the physical symptoms I was experiencing started to worry me, compounding the anxiety,” she wrote. “Now I know it was a classic panic episode caused by weariness, but I’d never heard the word before.”
JLo stated that her security officer drove her to the hospital and that the entire event terrified her, adding, “I felt I was losing my mind.” “I asked the doctor whether I was insane.”
The 52-year-old singing doctor advised her to get seven to nine hours of sleep every night, avoid coffee, and balance working out with job.
“I learned how serious the ramifications of disregarding what my body and mind need to be healthy might be — and that’s where my road to wellness began,” Lopez explained.
“I think of sleep as a tiny time machine,” she continued. You lie down and enter a realm where you maintain yourself, and then you emerge a fresh, younger version of yourself.”
“Sometimes when I wake up, I think, ‘Wow! ‘I just removed ten years off my face!’ “That’s what a good night’s sleep can do for you, and it builds up over time,” she said. “To me, sleep is the most underappreciated beauty secret out there.”
