Johnny Depp and Amber Heard: Highly-anticipated outcome expected when deliberations resume on Tuesday

The jury in Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard’s heated defamation trial is expected to reach a decision in the coming days after six weeks of testimony.

Jurors deliberating the duelling allegations of sexual assault brought by Heard and Depp adjourned their deliberations on Friday without reaching a decision, with the highly anticipated outcome expected when they resume on Tuesday.

On day 24 of the multimillion-dollar litigation, after several weeks of dramatic scenes, lawyers for both parties made their closing statements, and the jury began deliberations. It’s unclear when they’ll make their choice.

The trial began on April 11 and has already seen the ex-couple testify, as well as witnesses such as Kate Moss, Heard’s sister Whitney, and Depp’s former bodyguard. The court heard the Edward Scissorhands star swear at the outset of the proceedings that he had never struck a woman in his life.

He took the stand again this week, alleging that the Aquaman actress assaulted him while they were on their honeymoon in 2015.

After both parties’ closing arguments in the multimillion-dollar lawsuit, the judgement in the Depp v Heard defamation trial is likely in the coming days.

Experts argue that Depp is winning in the court of public opinion, which could be more important than whether he wins his defamation case against Amber Heard.

“When [Johnny Depp] stepped off the stand, I think he already won based on his definition of winning,” said Texas civil attorney Katherine Lizardo. Because he already obtained the favor of the court of public opinion … oncehe told his story.”

Jurors have been sent off to contemplate their verdict after six weeks of evidence, which included testimony from both Mr. Depp and Ms. Heard, as well as individuals such as British supermodel Kate Moss.

Judge Penney Azcarate told jurors that they must weigh all of the evidence before reaching a decision.
