Netflix Is Exploring Live-Streaming In Latest Change
Netflix is reportedly considering adding live streaming on its website, which could be a game-changer for the streaming business.
Despite Netflix’s reputation for dominating the critical debate with its original documentaries, films, and series, the platform’s prospective shift to live streaming would be significant.
Deadline reports that this is exactly what the company is intending.
Netflix has stated that enabling live streaming on the service is in the early phases of development, with the assumption that it will be focused on the media giant’s collection of unscripted series and stand-up specials.
It would also imply that the competition series and talent contests it broadcasts may be broadcast live, with viewers able to vote in real time to influence the outcome. Dance 100, a new dance competition series from The Circle producer Studio Lambert, would be one of the beneficiaries.
Another possibility is that the Netflix Is A Joke event will return. Around 300 stand-up comedians performed across Los Angeles for the live comedy event, including heavyweights like Dave Chappelle, Larry David, and Pete Davidson.
Many of the shows were taped with the intention of airing a few on the service, but they could be broadcast live in the future.
The move could allow Netflix to compete with other more linear networks that can offer live specials for shows like American Idol on NBC and Dancing With The Stars, which is set to migrate to Disney+ in the near future.
