The actress-director, who starred in Jurassic World: Dominion, is directing an episode of season three of The Mandalorian.

This is her fourth appearance in a Star Wars story, and it solidifies her relationship to the bounty hunting society. The first season’s episode “Sanctuary” and the second season’s episode “The Heiress” were directed by Howard. She also directed “Return of the Mandalorian,” a Mando-centric episode from last year’s The Book of Boba Fett, which was one of the show’s outstanding episodes.

The third season of Mandalorian began filming last autumn and is currently in post-production.

The directors of the series are kept as anonymous as possible by Lucasfilm, the Disney-owned business behind the Star Wars universe. Peyton Reed, Taika Waititi, Rick Famuyiwa, and Robert Rodriguez have directed chapters of Mandalorian. Deborah Chow directed one episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi before moving on to direct a complete season. Outings were also directed by showrunners and writers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.

Filoni, who has long been a driving force behind Star Wars’ animation, made his live-action directing debut with Mandalorian’s first episode, and went on to helm three more episodes, including one for Boba Fett. Filoni’s behind-the-camera workload is growing, and he’ll be directing a “handful” of episodes of Ahsoka, the series starring Rosario Dawson, according to THR. In April, filming on the series began, with Peter Ramsey directing an episode or maybe more.

Filoni’s portrayal of Ahsoka signifies a sort of reconciliation between creator and character. Ahsoka Tano initially debuted in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a 2008 animated feature film directed by Filoni, who had spent several years creating her. He also directed her in The Clone Wars series, Rebels, and her live-action début in “The Jedi,” a Mandalorian episode. Directing her in the live-action series strengthens his bond with her.

Howard will next be seen in Matthew Vaughn’s Apple spy thriller Argyle, and Dominion will in theatres on June 10. On Saturday, Filoni will join Favreau on stage at Star Wars Celebration for a discussion about all things Mandalorian.
