Shakira received special international award at Ivors

Shakira recognised with special international award at the Ivors.

The Ivors, which honour songwriters and screen composers, were held in London on Thursday. Rapper Dave, chart-topper Ed Sheeran, and music superstar Shakira were among the winners.

Dave knocked off vocalists Adele, Sheeran, and Raye, as well as Coldplay, to win songwriter of the year, while Laura Mvula’s critically praised Pink Noise took home the Ivor Novello award for outstanding album.

On the red carpet before the ceremony, Mvula told Reuters, “I’m just genuinely happy to be here amongst people I respect.” These are the ones who do not receive enough yells.

Shakira received the special international prize at the Ivors Academy event in the United Kingdom.

She told reporters, “There’s so much talent out there, and I’m delighted that today there are so many platforms that new songwriters and creators are taking advantage of.”

When I started my career as a songwriter and as a producer and singer, it was harder because I had to knock every door and it was hard to make sure that people knew about your work and get exposure. But today, technology has facilitated that in so many ways, and…also it’s more democratic.
