Johnny Depp expects trial will help him reclaim his reputation
In her controversial 2018 op-ed, Amber Heard claimed to be a victim of domestic abuse.
The piece wrecked ex-husband Johnny Depp’s life and career, caused him to lose the faith of his friends, and transformed him into a global monster.
Op-ed is an abbreviation meaning “opposite the editorial page.”
The term “editorial” is defined by the Cambridge Dictionary as “a piece of writing that conveys a personal view and is generally written in a newspaper opposite the page on which the editorial is printed.”
Such pieces are not authored by the publication’s editorial team, but rather represent the author’s point of view.
After divorcing Johnny Depp, Heard named herself as a victim of sexual abuse in an article headlined ‘I came out against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s fury.’ This must alter.’
She described being “exposed to abuse at a very young age” and being “harassed and sexually raped by the time I was of college age.”
Heard stated that she “kept silent” about the occurrences at first.
Amber, on the other hand, stated that she chose to speak out against violence and domestic abuse after experiencing it herself, pointing to ex-husband Johnny Depp as the aggressor.
Heard described herself as “a public figure symbolising domestic abuse,” and Johnny Depp quickly began to lose big acting roles, including a vital one in Pirates of the Caribbean.
During the incident, Depp received negative media coverage, with several publications labelling him a “wife-beater.”
Depp eventually sued Amber Heard 13 months after their divorce was finalised, accusing her of slander.
Heard has counter-sued Depp for $100 million (£80 million), saying he defamed her by referring to her accusations as “false” and a “sexual assault farce.”
