Will Young has stated that when he saw his late twin brother Rupert for the last time before committing himself, he HIT him.
In a moving documentary about his sibling’s suicide, the Pop Idol winner makes the brave confession.
He admits, “I hit my brother. The last thing I did was hit my brother, and I don’t have a problem with that.
He added: “I really don’t. Because he deserved it.”
Rupert committed suicided in August 2020 after battling depression and alcohol addiction for years.
Will’s unexpected admission about their feud occurs during a talk with a young artist who used art therapy to cope with her father’s alcoholism.
Will comments about his own complicated emotions concerning his brother’s condition after the artist expresses how much she loves but yet hates her father.
Will said, “At the end he would be drinking 24 hours a day, sleeping for a bit, waking and sleeping.
“You have got this monster who is just not moving and you are just sort of feeding … I thought this is not tenable, this is ridiculous. That is what I couldn’t live with anymore.”
He added, “The only thing was to throw him out and then see. And then also be aware that he might end up killing up himself and I had to be okay with that.
Will discloses in the documentary that his brother drank 40 beers per day and had attempted suicide on multiple occasions.
He even talks about how he walked on stage to compete on Pop Idol in 2002, only days after his brother attempted suicide by cutting his own wrists.
Will describes how Rupert’s stitches ruptured while he was watching his brother at the studio, requiring him to be treated in an ambulance.
Later in movie, Will recalls his turmoil at realizing there was nothing else he could do for his twin.
He revealed, “I had a big moment when I realized that I couldn’t save him. That brought a whole load of grief. I couldn’t save him and I had tried my hardest.”
