Yasmin Finney of Heartstopper slams dumb transphobic remarks
After a stranger made uninformed and unwelcome remarks to her at a restaurant, Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney accused transphobic statements.
Following her role as Elle Argent in the new adult series on Netflix, people have taken to the actress.
Heartstopper follows Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) as they begin as friends at a boys’ grammar school, but soon fall in love and begin a secret romance.
The show’s hopeful queer representation has even influenced countless fans to come out to their family.
In a series based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel, Elle portrays one of Charlie’s best friends.
She is transsexual, and you can see her relocate from Truham Grammar School to the Higgs School for Girls at the beginning of episode eight.
“Are you a boy or a girl”
Today some women shouted this in front of all of her peers while I was about to leave a restaurant…Erm Idk what do I look like to you? pic.twitter.com/A7BkkzDj7X

Yasmin expressed her skepticism of the streaming mogul’s attempt to cast a black trans girl to play a 17-year-old student, saying that she believes trans expression on television is important.
Yasmin, like most trans, non-binary, and gender nonconforming people, has faced transphobic comments throughout his life.
She posted a gorgeous mirror selfie in a black cutout dress to tweet about a recent incident. Her hair was styled in a sleek bob, and her makeup was even more stunning.
As Yasmin was leaving the restaurant with a photo, a woman shouted at her, “in front of her coworkers,” “Are you a boy or a girl?”
‘How do you perceive me?’ Yasmin expressed her admiration for the lovely selfie.
Yasmin added: ‘I was clearly shocked when she said this, and she said, “I’m not transphobic. I have trans friends.”‘
‘At this point I’ve given up hope lol,’ she said.
Fans quickly rallied around the Netflix star, reminding ‘Yaz’ that she was ‘unbelievable’ and ‘I’m sorry’ about the hurtful experience she had gone through.
‘I’m so sorry that you went through that, love. You are wonderful and amazing. We’re here to remind you of that every day if you need it,’ one told her.
‘I wish I could wrap her in wool and protect her from everyone and everything :(‘, replied the other.
One person added: ‘This pisses me off so much that transphobes say, “I have a trans friend!” Cards make it even worse. I absolutely hate people. All the love for Queen Yaz.’
Yasmin, who is 18 years old, has already surpassed one million Instagram followers this week as a result of the phenomenal success of her video Heartstopper.
Many fans identified with her character in the series because she shares the joy of being transgender rather than the trauma.
Teenage stuff, according to illustrator Alice, who worked closely with the YA book to bring it to life.
‘It’s critical to demonstrate that transgender youngsters experience the same events and tales as other teenagers.’
Elle should be played by a black trans actor, according to producer Patrick Walters. The show didn’t start until they met Yaz.
‘I was scared,’ Alice admitted.
‘We were worried we wouldn’t find the right person for the role before meeting Yasmin,’ Patrick explained.
‘There was a lot of pressure, and we felt we couldn’t do a show without finding the perfect person to lead you through this plot,’ says the producer.
