The jury in Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation lawsuit has unanimously sided with Depp, meaning that the Aquaman starlet has lost the case by a landside and, on the basis of her USD 100 million counter-claim, Amber was levied USD 2 million in compensatory damages by the jury.

The actress took to social media for the first time since the trial began to make a public statement. Heard emphasized her sadness with the ruling while remaining committed to her case.

She stated,  “The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence and sway of my ex-husband”. She went on to discuss the probable social ramifications of the sentence, which she claimed was unjust”I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback.”  Meanwhile, the actress expressed her regret at having “lost this case”.

For those unfamiliar with the case, Depp sued Heard for USD 50 million on defamation grounds, which he won USD 15 million for, after she wrote an Op-Ed in The Washington Post in 2018 portraying herself as the “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Despite the fact that she did not identify Depp in her opinion piece, it was evident that the defamatory article was aimed at him, her ex-husband whom she divorced in 2016 on domestic abuse charges. Heard counter-sued Depp for USD 100 million after the actor’s claim, citing three remarks made by Depp’s previous attorney Adam Waldman in an exclusive to Daily Mail.
