A soldier who was due to go to Ukraine for combat made the most of his time off by getting married and even putting on a comedy show about it.

Serhiy Lipko, like his new wife Anastasia Zukhvala, was forging a career as a stand-up comedian during the peacetime.

However, as a result of the outbreak of war, their plans had to change, and they would soon be separated, as will many other couples across the country.

On June 11, they planned to throw a small wedding for a few dozen close friends and family, with Anastasia wearing a simple crown of blue flowers in her hair.

They then went to a stand-up comedy club in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital.

Serhiy then ascended the stage, dressed in olive-green combat fatigues, and began entertaining the audience with army and married life jokes.

According to the AP, he joked that military training with NATO instructors had been an excellent opportunity for him to polish his English, and that he was apprehensive about handling expensive military equipment for fear of breaking it.

For some Ukrainians, comedy is a way of coping with the abrupt change from their prior routine.

Thousands of people have been slain, and millions have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety.

Although the matter is not amusing, finding humor is a method to maintain morale and avoid sinking into despair.

While some parts of the war can be humorously discussed, “tragedies cannot and will never be the topic of humor,” Anastasia explains.

The deaths of Ukrainians, as well as the bloodiest wars, like as the siege of Mariupol, are not laughed at. Similarly, crimes like those found in Atrocities in Bucha and elsewhere are the same.

However, dark Ukrainian wartime comedy frequently hits Russian President Vladimir Putin and his troops, particularly the dead and wounded.

After Serhiy’s show, Anastasia and Serhiy hugged and grabbed up armfuls of bouquets, wondering aloud where they’d put them at home.
