Brad Pitt reveals he suffers prosopagnosia: “NOBODY BELIEVES ME”
- The 58-year-old actor struggles to remember people’s names and faces at parties.
- He fears his lack of memory could make him come off as remote and aloof.
- In an interview with Esquire, he said he would like to meet someone who has suffered from Asperger’s syndrome.
Brad Pitt apparently thinks that he may suffer from undiagnosed “face blindness,” which he says would explain why he struggles to remember people and can come off as “remote and aloof”.
In a recent interview, the 58-year-old Lost City actor talked openly about his potential medical problem and how it might affect his reputation.

Pitt says he has trouble recalling new individuals and recognising their appearances, especially in social contexts like parties. Pitt hasn’t received a formal diagnosis for prosopagnosia, which the NHS defines as a condition where you “cannot recognise people’s faces.”
The restriction disturbs Pitt, who told the publication that he fears it may give the appearance that he is “remote and aloof, inaccessible, and self-absorbed” to individuals he encounters.
Pitt claims that the contrary is actually true since he feels “ashamed” when he can’t recall the individuals he meets.
According to the NHS, developmental prosopagnosia, which affects people who have not experienced brain damage, may affect up to one in every 50 people. People are frequently affected by the illness from birth, and it typically persists throughout life.
“Many people with prosopagnosia are not able to recognise family members, partners or friends,” the NHS states, noting that the condition can lead to social anxiety disorders.
Prosopagnosia can also occur as a result of a brain damage or stroke, a condition known as acquired prosopagnosia.
The actor admitted as he spoke that “nobody believes” him when he claims to have a medical ailment. He said, “Nobody believes me!” and added that he would like to meet another person who experienced the illness.
This is not the first time that Pitt has discussed his difficulty recognising faces in public or the effect it has on his reputation. In an earlier interview with Esquire, the Oscar winner claimed that “so many” people “hate” him because they believe he is deliberately “disrespecting” them.
Brad Pitt claimed that the unfavourable contacts eventually led him to inquire about the context from people he had already met, an experiment that, in his words, only made things “worse”.
“So many people hate me because they think I’m disrespecting them,” he told the outlet in 2013. “So I swear to God, I took one year where I just said, This year, I’m just going to cop to it and say to people: ‘Okay, where did we meet?’ But it just got worse. People were more offended.”
Brad Pitt acknowledged that some individuals will aid him by giving him background, but the majority of people view him as “egotistical” or “conceited.”

“But it’s a mystery to me, man. I can’t grasp a face and yet I come from such a design/aesthetic point of view. I am going to get it tested,” he added at the time.
Also while speaking, the actor also revealed that he suffered for years with “low-grade depression,” and that he only recently discovered joy. According to Pitt, the change is partly due to a “greater embrace” of his friends and family”.
