Fatima Sana Shaikh discusses her role as Indira Gandhi in “Sam Bahadur”

Fatima Sana Shaikh, who was recently featured in Shonali Bose’s Raat Rani, one of the six stories in Pritish Nandy’s anthology ‘Modern Love Mumbai,’ is gearing ready to wow her admirers once more with her next project. The actress has been cast in Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Sam Bahadur,’ in which she would portray Indira Gandhi. Fatima, on the other hand, said that she only accepted the film because of Gulzar. For the film, she just did one look-test.

According to the Times of India, the ‘Dangal’ actress revealed how she is preparing for her role as India’s first female Prime Minister. Fatima claimed that she had been viewing old interviews with Indira Gandhi and reading a lot of literature about her. Although none of this will be seen on film, the actress noted that learning about famous people who have altered history is fascinating.

Vicky Kaushal has been cast in the film as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, the titular character. Sanya Malhotra, Fatima’s ‘Dangal’ co-star, also appears in the film.

Meanwhile, when asked about her film’s co-stars, the 30-year-old actress told Pinkvilla, “I keep on  meeting Sanya anyway.” We won’t be ‘acting’ together; r – it will be something like Ludo. We will have some passing moments together. So, it’s not like we are working together, but just the fact that we will be together in the same film is very special. And I think we are lucky for each other! (giggles) And Vicky is a sweetheart. So, it’s going to be a lot of fun! And I am a big fan of Meghna.”

‘Sam Bahadur’ is a biopic based on the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, the former Chief of the Army Staff. While Vicky Kaushal will play the title character, Sanya Malhotra will play his wife, Silloo Manekshaw. Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies is producing the feature, which is set to enter theatres in August of this year.

Aside from that, Fatima Sana Shaikh is now filming ‘Dhak Dhak,’ a new film. Taapsee Pannu co-produces the film, which also has Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza, and Sanjana Sanghi in prominent roles.
