Geri Horner, one of the Spice Girls, will be awarded an honorary doctorate by Sheffield Hallam University for her work advocating for children, young people, and women’s rights.
Ginger Spice, the 49-year-old singer, characterized education as a “superpower” and said it was a “wonderful privilege” to be honored.
She will receive her award at a degree ceremony held during Sheffield Hallam University’s graduation fortnight in November, which will see over 12,000 students graduate this year.
Horner recently paid a visit to the university to meet Vice-Chancellor Sir Chris Husbands and students in the media, arts, and communication departments.
She learned about the South Yorkshire Children’s University program, which offers inclusive extracurricular activities to children and young people from underprivileged homes.

“I’m delighted to receive the award and very much look forward to returning to Sheffield Hallam for the graduation ceremony later this year.”
