The news was made at the Ghostbusters Day Ecto-Fest, which commemorates the original film’s premiere on June 8, 1984.

Following the original, 1989’s ‘Ghostbusters II,’ the female-led 2016 ‘Ghostbusters’ remake, and last year’s Jason Reitman-directed ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife,’ the studio suggested in a sizzle reel in April that a fifth live-action picture in the franchise was in the works.

The company revealed what the film’s end credits hinted at: the next sequel would return to the slime’s original scene: New York City and the firehouse. The 2021 film made $197.4 million worldwide.

Reitman’s late father, Ivan Reitman, directed the 1984 film ‘Ghostbusters,’ which featured Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson, as well as Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis, and Annie Potts. It became a sensation, with Ray Parker Jr’s title song topping the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks.

Five years later, the stream-crossing group and filmmaker returned for ‘Ghostbusters II,’ directed by Paul Feig and starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones.
