Johnny Depp’s return in Pirates as captain is a success for him

The court win of Johnny Depp against his wife Amber Heard has sparked speculation regarding his return as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Before the judgment in his defamation case, the film producer testified that the “future is yet to be decided.” At the time, there was no official word on whether Johnny Depp would be involved in the new production.

Deep testified at his trial against ex-wife Amber Heard that Heard’s defamatory statements had harmed his job and that he had been fired from Pirates six days after the op-ed was published because of them.

In a pre-recorded deposition presented to the court on May 19, Disney executive Tina Newman testified that she didn’t “know one way or another” if Depp was still being considered for a role in the film.

Meanwhile, following his victory in his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, a former Walt Disney Studios official believes Depp may return to the franchise in the future.

While Hollywood insiders disagree on whether Depp’s career will recover following the trial, one former Disney executive believes Depp will be asked to return to the Pirates franchise shortly.

“I absolutely believe post-verdict that Pirates is primed for rebooting with Johnny as Capt. Jack back on board,” the former exec told People. “There is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture.”

Returning as Captain Jack Sparrow in The Pirates of the Caribbean revival would undoubtedly be more than a triumph for Johnny Depp and his Hollywood career.
