Kim Kardashian has spoken out against the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade, the landmark case that legalised abortion across the country nearly 50 years ago.
The 41-year-old billionaire business tycoon used her Instagram Stories to respond to the judgement on Friday, drawing parallels between it and the Supreme Court’s most recent expansion of gun rights. According to Kardashian’s Instagram story, “weapons have more rights than women in America.”

After that, the creator of Skims reposted a number of tweets to her narrative that were initially tweeted by author and human rights attorney Derecka Purnell.
“If this was about babies, there would be universal healthcare. Free education. Free daycare. Southern states would be doing all they can to drop the Black maternal mortality rate. This is about power and control,” Purnell tweeted.
In a second tweet shared by Kardashian, Purnell wrote: “Thankful to everyone who continues the fight for reproductive justice, and for the people who are joining that fight now because of this moment”.
On June 24, the conservative majority of the Supreme Court decided, 6-3, in favour of a Mississippi statute that attempts to forbid abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The nation’s highest court has also invalidated significant precedents set by the Roe v. Wade judgement from 1973 and an affirming ruling in Planned Parenthood v. Casey from 1992.
The judgement was rendered following the publication by Politico in May of an early draught of the opinion in the matter of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which is the subject of today’s decision. As a result of some states already criminalising or essentially outlawing abortion, millions of American women who want to get an abortion will now have to travel hundreds of miles to do it.
One of the many significant decisions the Supreme Court made this week, just before the start of the summer break, was the decision to reverse Roe v. Wade. A stringent New York gun regulation that demanded individuals to prove a specific necessity for carrying a pistol in order to obtain a licence to do so was overturned by the court on Thursday. The conservative majority of the court concluded the law violated the Second Amendment right to “keep and bear arms” in its 6-3 decision.
Michelle Obama voiced her sadness with the Supreme Court’s ruling in a message that was earlier in the day published by Kardashian.
Kardashian has previously spoken out against gun violence using her platform. In the wake of the Robb Elementary School tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, which claimed the lives of 19 students and two teachers, the reality star urged for tighter gun control regulations in May.

“I find myself heartbroken, disgusted and furious about how little has been done by lawmakers to enact gun laws that protect our children,” Kardashian said in an essay.
“There is no excuse and no justification for what happened. The current laws in our country around gun control are not protecting our children. We have to push lawmakers to enact laws that are fitting in today’s world,” she added.

The Kardashians star supports the outlawing of semi-automatic guns of the AR-15 design, arguing that such weapons “are not a self-defense tool.” She continued by arguing that in light of the hundreds of mass shootings that have occurred recently, the Second Amendment, which gave Americans the right to own firearms, is no longer relevant.
Kardashian concluded her statement: “We can’t accept this as normal anymore. It’s not normal for a teenager to kill children. It’s not normal for our kids to be practicing active shooter drills in schools. It’s not normal to be shot while shopping for groceries. I’m not numbed by it. I will never be numbed by it.”
