Outbidding rival studios, Lionsgate has acquired the film rights to Kayvion Lewis’ forthcoming young adult suspense novel Thieves’ Gambit.

The adaptation will be produced by Steven Caple Jr., Christina Hodson, and Morgan Howell, with Caple Jr. serving as both producer and director. Caple Jr. also helmed Creed II and is now wrapping up post-production on Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which will be released in June 2023.
Lewis will serve as executive producer of the film, which centres on a young lady who is forced to compete in a risky and brutal tournament against other young, gifted thieves where the winner walks away with everything. The young woman was taught by her parents to be an experienced thief.
Caple Jr. stated in a statement that “Thieves’ Gambit is such a unique perspective on the beloved heist genre and I am thrilled to be partnering up with Lionsgate and Kayvion to bring audiences a franchise that they can emotionally connect with and grow alongside.”

While Wyck Godfrey, Isaac Klausner, and Annika Patton will be in charge of overseeing for Temple Hill, Meredith Wieck and Jon Humphrey will be in charge for Lionsgate.
On behalf of Lionsgate, Robert Melnik negotiated the agreement.
