Nick and Alyssa Cannon honour their late son.

In a June 23 Instagram post, the couple remembered their late son Zen, who died of brain cancer at 5 months old.

They stated, “June 23rd will forever be a day of celebration,” added, “A beautiful lighting ceremony to honor the life of an Angel.”

Nick and Alyssa revealed in a post that they have founded a foundation in Zen’s honour to “promote worldwide excellence in hope, grief-care, and paediatric healthcare for families and children in need.”

They said, “Zen’s birth has now transformed into ‘Zen’s Light’,” added, “We are proud to announce his new foundation that will help so many others in this world.”

Nick and Alyssa thanked all who attended the first lighting ceremony, saying it won’t be the last. “Can’t wait for next year,” they said, “where our Lighting Gala will continue grow to help find a cure for pediatric Cancer, further research and help console more families during difficult times.”

Nick Cannon revealed Zen’s death from brain cancer on his Dec. 7 show. Zen’s family initially learned of his sickness when they took him to the doctor for a “sinus problem,” but subsequently “found out he had another ailment.”

Nick stated hydrocephalus was caused by fluid in his head. “His head was starting to get big. When we found out it was more, they called it a malignant tumor in his head. Immediately, we had to have surgery. Brain surgery.”

Nick said Zen’s health swiftly plummeted after Thanksgiving, despite doctors placing a shunt in his skull and hoping “for the best.” He said,”If anybody knows how cancer is, it was cancer in the brain,” he shared, “And the tumor began to grow a lot faster.”

Alyssa posted an Instagram tribute to Zen on June 23.

“At the root of all the emotions I have today there is insurmountable love,” she wrote, “I will wish he was still here with us.”
