Rian Johnson discloses the official title and release date of “Knives Out 2”

Director Rian Johnson has revealed the title of Knives Out 2. The narrative of the murder mystery sequel is unknown, however, it is speculated that the movie would continue Daniel Craig’s eccentric private investigator as he investigates another homicide in the Mediterranean.

In Knives Out 2, however, Craig is joined by Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline, Jessica Henwick, Ethan Hawke, and previous actor Noah Segan. Knives Out 2 began production in mid-2021, according to Screenrant, and fans were eagerly awaiting news about the film. Rian Johnson took to Twitter to reveal the new Knives Out 2 title, following his intriguing response to a fan’s request. The murder mystery sequel is titled Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

Johnson also mentioned in the reveal thread that Agatha Christie was a key influence for the sequel and the Knives Out series, complimenting her ability to cover a variety of genres under her whodunit umbrella, including “spy thrillers, proto-slasher horrors,” among other things. Given that Johnson identifies a variety of subgenres as influences for Knives Out 2 and since the film’s synopsis only references Craig’s Benoit Blanc as being involved in a mystery, it’s possible that the quirky private investigator will be involved in anything other than another murder.

Knives Out 2 will be released over the Christmas season, most likely in November or December, according to Netflix and Johnson. Fans will have to wait for a formal release date and trailer for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, as Johnson expects many more revelations in the near future.
