Queen Elizabeth will miss another Jubilee event, this time the Epsom Derby, the Royal Palace said on Friday.

After officials said she felt “some discomfort” from her appearances on the first day of her Platinum Jubilee, the Queen will no longer attend the Epsom Derby on Saturday.

The Queen, who is a passionate horseracing enthusiast and breeder, has only missed The Derby on three occasions during her reign, the most recent being in 2020 when spectators were excluded owing to Covid.

Since an unplanned overnight stay in the hospital last October, she has had growing difficulty standing and walking.

A string of canceled engagements has raised concerns about her health, drawing attention to the monarchy’s succession and future without her.

There will be speculation as to what other activities she may attend during the festivities, which include a pop performance on Saturday and a massive public march on Sunday.

However, The Trooping the Colour ceremony and another memorable appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony started off Queen Elizabeth’s celebrations for her platinum jubilee on Thursday, June 2. Following the first day of celebrations, it was revealed that the 96-year-old would be withdrawing from Friday’s service event due to discomfort.
