I miss him, and we all miss him, and we miss his visage, an emotional Elton John stated as he introduced the song. So, George, I’m here to tell you that I love and miss you.
The original version of Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me, which was released in 1974, was written by Sir Elton and his longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin.
In another place, Sir Elton honoured the front-line NHS employees’ contributions to the Covid-19 pandemic prior to the start of his performance.
The music legend talked before his performance and expressed his respect for the essential staff members, saying that they “did the most amazing job.”
In addition, he paid tribute to the NHS with an Augmented Reality-enabled performance that included a cartoon Elton performing in a hospital with nurses and physicians.
Elton said of the medical staff during the epidemic in a statement prior to the show: “They did the most amazing job, under the most extraordinary, awful circumstances.”
‘I mean, it just came out of nowhere. And the hours they worked, the conditions they worked in, the grief they must have suffered by seeing so many people die and suffering.
‘People couldn’t see their loved ones. But the front line workers, you can’t really say enough about them because you don’t really know the mental stuff that they suffered as well, apart from the exhaustion from treating people – the mental effects it had on people,’ continued Elton.
Elton called NHS employees “extraordinary” and acknowledged that “without them we wouldn’t have gone through it,” but added that it wasn’t so hard for him because he didn’t have to leave the house, save from to go to the dentist.
Additionally, Elton collaborated with Vodafone for an Augmented Reality component that was used during the performance. Augmented Reality is an interactive experience in a real-world environment that adds computer-generated perceptual data to the performance.
One element of the app was a cartoon version of Elton John falling through the stage and landing in an operating room while still performing, surrounded by medical professionals.
NHS staff in the audience expressed their happiness and connection to the song as Elton played his inspirational classic I’m Still Standing for the festival attendees.
One, named Adam Barnard, shared: ‘I think there isn’t really a better representation for how a lot of us will be feeling than the lyrics to that song.’
‘To see my colleagues and teammates go through what they’ve gone through in the past couple of years and what they’ve given up has been really phenomenal,’ added another of the NHS’s staff, Sara Spearpoint.
At the British Summer Time Hyde Park celebration in London on Friday, Sir Elton put on an enthusiastic performance.

As he stood up and waved his arms in the air next to his keyboard, the singer was observed energising the crowd.
