To commemorate the Jubilee, Queen Elizabeth appears on the balcony of Buckingham Palace

• The Platinum Jubilee celebrations formally begin today, June 2, with Queen Elizabeth’s appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
• According to the BBC, the 96-year-old queen was spotted reviewing returning troops from the Trooping the Colour event earlier in the day.
• The Queen was joined on the balcony by her cousin, the Duke of Kent.

She was greeted with exuberant applause from the throng who had lined the streets of London for the Jubilee celebrations.

The monarch walked to the balcony looking healthy and dazzling in a light powder purple outfit for the event, putting speculation about her health to rest.

Earlier, many arrests were reported immediately before the Trooping the Colour ritual began.

According to ITV, the Metropolitan Police arrested a number of people after a group attempted to crash and infiltrate the ceremonial path of the Trooping the Colour procession before it started off.

Members of the gang were dragged away from a marching military band’s bath as they marched down the route near Buckingham Palace early Thursday.
