The FBI detained GHISLAINE Maxwell in July 2020. She was infamous paedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s ex-girlfriend.
In Bedford, New Hampshire, close to the house she thought belonged to her new boyfriend, Maxwell was apprehended.
Maxwell has been accused of having a role in Epstein’s sex trafficking ring of underage girls.
When did Maxwell’s sex trafficking trial start?
On November 29, 2021, Maxwell’s sex trafficking trial formally opened.
There are accusations against Maxwell that she supplied women for Epstein while also occasionally abusing them.
Authorities say that she and Epstein abused young girls as young as 14.
The defence team for Maxwell will assert that it has been overblown how close she was to Epstein while denying all allegations against her.
“Ever since Eve was accused of tempting Adam with the fruit, women have been held responsible for the ill behaviour of men, and women are frequently demonised and punished more than men are,” Maxwell’s defence attorney Bobbi Sternheim said in her opening statement to the jury.
“Charges brought against Ghislaine Maxwell stem from actions taken by Jeffrey Epstein. She is not, however, Jeffrey Epstein.”
“In many ways, he was like a 21st century James Bond,” Sternheim said of Epstein. “His accusers have rattled the money tree, and millions of dollars have fallen their way.”
As Maxwell responds to six counts connected to the trafficking and abuse of four victims, the case may witness the release of shocking discoveries from the shadowy Epstein universe.
Maxwell was found guilty of all counts on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, with the exception of the subsequent one.
She was cleared of luring a minor under the age of 17 to travel with the intention of engaging in illicit intercourse.
According to ABC News, Maxwell was placed on suicide watch just two days prior to the sentencing.
Her attorneys, according to the site, claim that she is not suicidal despite being diagnosed as such by “independent experts.”
According to the prosecutor, Maxwell “run the same playbook again and again and again” and was a “skilled predator who understood exactly what she was doing.”
Maxwell was given a sentence by Judge Alison Nathan “That is 20 years. Then supervised release for five years.”
She also assessed the heiress a $750,000 (£615) punishment.
Sarah Ransome, Elizabeth Stein, Annie Farmer, and “Kate,” the accuser, as well as victims of Epstein who confronted Maxwell in the courtroom.
The judge had been asked by the prosecution to sentence the defendant to 30 to 55 years in jail.
While Maxwell’s defence argued for a five-year maximum punishment.
The 60-year-old said to the victims, “I apologise for the suffering you have endured.
I really hope that my guilty verdict and lengthy sentence will bring you resolution, serenity, and closure.

A British socialite and heiress named Ghislaine Maxwell became Jeffrey Epstein’s confidante.

She began dating American investor Jeffrey Epstein in 1992, and they were close friends for many years after that.

One of the most sought-after women in the world, Maxwell escaped to France, the country of her birth, to avoid being questioned by the FBI about her connections to the late disgraced tycoon in the US.
The 60-year-old disappeared from the public eye in 2016 and was holed up on Avenue Matignon in the affluent 8th Arrondissement of Paris.
When exactly she arrived back in the US is uncertain.
