Adele just went to London for the first time in five years to perform at the BST Hyde Park festival. The singer last performed a lengthy outdoor run in her hometown in 2017, but she had to postpone the final two performances of her four-night engagement at Wembley Stadium due to vocal cord damage. In fact, according to the media, this was her first complete live performance since then.
Adele began singing “Hello” as she quietly entered the stage, wearing a chic black gown and assertion earrings.
However, she hardly finished the first line before yelling, “I’m so happy to be here!” and requesting some vocal assistance from the audience.
According to the media, the crowd was firmly on her side as the lyrics of every anthem about heartbreak echoed back along the seemingly endless rows of supporters taking in the evening sun. The singer nevertheless made them work.
She once remarked that “It is strange to be in front of a crowd again,” but in actuality, she still comes across as a natural.
She stated this before singing “I Drink Wine.” The fans seemed to be following the advice in the song’s title to the letter, so the band made fun of them by gurning and making big eyes at them.
But few other singers could pull off her cruise ship compering style, reading the placards held high in the crowd and wishing people a happy birthday, anniversary, “divorce party,” or exam results (“I failed all my exams and I’m doing alright”).
More confetti was thrown into the air as a final, string-drenched rendition of “Love is a Game” erupted, lighting up the crowd and providing actual fireworks. This time, the hearts were pink and red, perfectly illustrating the prodigal daughter’s reconciliation with the capital of the UK.
